Buyer's Guide: Crop, Wrap & Safe Area

Aspect Ratio

A 12x16 canvas is 304 × 406 mm. If your photo has a different aspect ratio — for example, a square or portrait shot — it will need to be cropped to fit. We'll adjust the crop to centre on the main subject, but if you have a specific crop preference, let us know when you email your file.

Edge Wrap

The canvas wraps around a 40 mm timber frame. Roughly 40 mm of image on each edge will fold around the sides and won't be visible from the front. This means your total image area is divided into a front face and four wrapped edges.

Safe Area — Keep Important Details Away from the Edges

To ensure faces, text, and key details are fully visible on the front of the print, keep all important content at least 50 mm (about 8–9% of the image width) from each edge. Anything closer to the edge may wrap around the frame or be trimmed during stretching.

If Your Image Needs Cropping

If your image doesn't match the A2 aspect ratio, we'll contact you before printing to confirm the crop. We won't print until you've approved the layout, so there's no risk of an unexpected result.
